A Surprise Proposal at the UW Arboretum: Eric & David's Love Story
There are some moments that are so full of love, light, and raw emotion that you just feel lucky to witness them—even through a lens. Eric’s surprise proposal to David at the University of Washington Arboretum in Seattle was one of those unforgettable moments. As a Seattle proposal photographer, I live for moments like these—ones where love shows up as its most honest, joyful self. And this one? It was pure magic from start to finish.
Eric planned the entire thing with intention and heart. The UW Arboretum, with its lush trees and serene waterfront views, was the perfect backdrop. Golden hour was just beginning to work its magic as Eric laid out a soft blanket on the grass and unpacked a cozy picnic setup. The sounds of the water, the golden light filtering through the leaves—it all felt like a scene from a romantic movie. David, unaware of what was about to happen, was relaxed and enjoying the afternoon. That changed when Eric began to speak.

Eric stood up and took David’s hands in his. He began sharing a heartfelt speech, his voice steady but emotional. He spoke about their journey, their laughter, the quiet nights in, and the dreams they’ve built together.
Then, Eric reached for the picnic basket. Nestled inside—surrounded by fresh, fragrant flowers—were two ring boxes. The moment David saw them, his eyes lit up. Tears, laughter, and a very enthusiastic “yes!” followed.
It was simple. It was intentional. It was absolutely them.

After the proposal, we took full advantage of the golden light streaming through the trees. I always tell my couples: there’s nothing like golden hour to capture true emotion—and this day proved that again.
Eric and David were positively glowing. Their laughter came easy, their smiles wide and contagious. We captured sweet kisses, playful hugs, and those quiet little moments in between where their love just radiated without saying a word.
One of my favorite shots from the session? David wrapping his arms around Eric from behind, both of them laughing so hard they could barely stand still. It was completely unposed and completely perfect.

Eric and David’s proposal was a beautiful reminder that the best moments are the ones that feel true to you. Whether you’re planning a quiet picnic, a beachside celebration, or a city rooftop surprise—your love deserves to be documented in a way that feels authentic.
